About
The #dev-ersity in academia (#DIA) is an initiative started by two underrepresented researchers from India. It is established as a result of a lack of awareness around the subject in developing and underdeveloped countries. We are certain that there is a dire need to aid global Developmental Psychology and allied sciences enthusiasts; especially those from under-represented nations, to settle the turmoil they undergo during their various levels of careers and education and pursue their best interests — just like how individuals from the traditional fields, including clinical psychology exercise it.
We hope through this #DIA initiative can be the face for inclusive events in academia and help the marginalised populations to truly be themselves in the academic space, especially through acceptance and acknowledgment of their valuable contributions towards psychological science.
Objectives
What we do ?
#devpsych enthusiasts can present their own research progress/article or any scientists’ work with proper citations during our meetings that happen every once in two weeks. Others can attend the sessions for free as attendees/participants.
This initiative will encapsulate (1) details of upcoming research-related opportunities in #devpsych community, (2) synopsis, Zoom recordings and resources related to the latest session. (3) details of upcoming journal club meetings (4) and a spotlight section where we give shoutout to #devpsych enthusiasts’ intriguing work/activities.
Under-represented experts from #devpsych and related disciplines where they share the best of their experiential knowledge regarding their field of work and their work. These sessions will be open to anyone online
Details on this event coming soon....
Note: These are just the first ever set of events that are lined up. There would be more events and activities that are currently under planning.
Diversity and Inclusivity Statement
The #DIA embraces diversity, equality and inclusivity. The founders of the journal club are from the underrepresented population and take the DEI initiative very seriously. One of our co-founders, Nikita Ghodke, is a queer disabled researcher in academia and believes in representation, especially in STEM. We believe in open science, transparency and hence would make all the materials of the sessions available for public view with consent. Our priority is also to make all the information and sessions accessible by making sure the transcripts of the sessions are made available for everyone. We believe in giving equal opportunities to everyone in the field irrespective of one’s colour, race, caste, religion, gender, disabilities.
